Electronic Design Interchange Format

The Electronic Design Interchange Format (EDIF) is a vendor-independent, machine-readable format from the 80s used for exchange of netlists and schematics. It provides an interface between CAD- and CAE- data in the planning, design, production and PCB manufacturing.

The current version of EDIF 4.0.0 dates from 1996 and has been standardized by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). It is used in the printed circuit board design and in the production of multi-chip modules (MCM).
