Circuit board glossary

Inner layers

Description:

The (copper) layers of a multilayer circuit board which are located between the outer layers (top / bottom). Laminates and copper of different thickness can be combined for the build-up (see layer build-up). The inner layers may include conductive patterns or ground planes.

The inner layers are connected to the outer layers by vias. Connections which exclusively connect inner layers are blind vias or buried vias.
