Per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFASs) are chemical compounds that are widely used in many industries due to their water- and stain-repellent properties. However, concerns have been raised in recent years about the potential risks of PFASs to humans and the environment.
To minimise these risks, five European countries - Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden - have submitted a "restriction dossier" to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), which aims to ban more than 10,000 PFAS compounds, including fluoroplastics such as PVDF, ECTFE, PTFE or PFA.
